POVERTY AND NATURAL DISASTERS PLACE LEARNERS AT A DISADVANTAGE

THE RIGHT2WRITE FREE SCHOOL EXERCISE BOOK PROJECT

This ongoing programme will contribute in helping to alleviate the desperate need for school exercise books by facilitating, with your generous support,  a regular print run of 500 000 “Flip Style” free school books which will be distributed to learners who are in need by the Gift of the Givers Foundation.

The RIGHT2WRITE PROJECT is a South African initiative, in support of  the many South African learners in need. The design work and production is done by a Cape Town based, JSE listed company, thereby

supporting the urgent need to provide local employment

The books are of a high quality, and printed on a sustainable paper source.

WHY THE UNIQUE FLIP STYLE A4 EXERCISE BOOK?

The high levels of poverty in our country means that thousands of learners either can’t afford a book in which to write, and are often forced to share a single exercise book. Rural learners often resort to using a plastic  shopping carrier bag to carry their books to school. The “Flip Style”  A4 size 168 page exercise book, allows learners to now use only one book for two subjects. This means that both learners and teachers have fewer books to carry to and from school on a daily basis.

The local school curriculum requires learners to do between six and eight subjects per standard, so learners will receive a pack of 6 x A4 168 page exercise books.

(5 x flip style books for general class work, and a single A4 168 page Exam Pad)

A1 WALL HANGING GRAPHIC POSTERS

Hundreds of rural schools have little or no wall charts to which teachers can refer to in order to enhance the learning experience. In this regard our vision is to print

100 000 A1 size full colour posters,  which can be hung on the walls of a classroom. 50 000 of these posters will be printed to suit the junior school environment,  and 50 000 posters  for the high school environment.

5 000 packs containing ten assorted “Junior school” appropriate posters will be in each pack, with each poster folded down to an A4 size for ease of transport, with the same amount being produced for the high school education.
